How it all started...
Christ the King Bible Fellowship (CKBF) began as a Bible study in the winter of 1998. The Spirit of God led Minister Jimmy Miller to begin the New Convert Bible Study for new Christians, and God blessed the study. We began to grow both spiritually and numerically. After several months, the Lord led us to begin a new church.
Although our church did not yet have a name, we knew that God had called William “Tony” Moore as Pastor and Jimmy Miller as Associate Pastor. Following the leading of the Lord, and with counsel from other clergy, we held our first service on May 2, 1999. Thirty people attended the home of Jimmy Miller, where we dedicated CKBF to God. We sang praises to our awesome God, heard our first message, and had great fellowship with a family dinner.
In August 2000, God blessed us with André Sims (Doctoral candidate at Dallas Theological Seminary in Dallas, TX) as our Senior Pastor. He came to us from the staff at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas where Dr. Tony Evans serves as Senior Pastor. Pastor Sims’ wife, Kathy, and two children accompanied him. On August 4, 2000, the church moved out of the Moore’s home and held its first worship service in a storefront.
By February 2001, CKBF had grown to 130 people joining us in worship and was holding two Sunday services. The decision was made to move to a larger facility. So, Easter Sunday of 2001, we held our first service at Adelaide Elementary School gym.
In 2002, CKBF became aware of a church building in Federal Way, which could facilitate our current needs and room for expansion. Although we had almost no money and other churches were also bidding on the property, we followed what we believed to be the Lord’s guidance and purchased the property. Remembering what the Lord God said in Isaiah 7:9b, “If you will not believe, surely you shall not be established.” We believed that God (Jehovah Jireh) would provide and miraculously he did!
Since then, CKBF developed six ministry areas that serve our congregation and our surrounding community. We share the love of the Lord through discipleship, fellowship, youth ministries, worship and striving to meet the needs of our members. We spread the good news of the Gospel to our community through outreach to local schools, feeding programs, and public events such as Easter Eggs Hunts and Block Parties.
In 2021 Dr. André Sims announced his resignation as the Sr. Pastor at CKBF after 21 years of ministry. After serving for a year as Interim Pastor, Russ Williams, was appointed as Sr. Pastor, and Elder Brad McElroy is the Associate Pastor.
CKBF continues to fulfill our vision and mission through proper prayer, proper preaching, and proper teaching as we continue “walking as one.”
